Protest over Kalamandalam secretary's absence in PTA meeting

Staff Reporter

Thrissur: About 100 parents of students of Kerala Kalamandalam protested against Kalamandalam secretary Balachandran Vadakkedathu reportedly not having attended the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting convened at the institution on Wednesday.

"The date for the meeting was reportedly fixed by the PTA secretary after consulting Mr. Vadakkedathu. Parents from different parts of the State had gathered at Kerala Kalamandalam for the meeting. Mr. Vadakkedathu was present in his office, but did not attend the meeting. The parents wanted to discuss problems faced by students and issues such as improving facilities in the students' hostel. The secretary's absence put us, teachers, on the spot," S. Gopakumar, secretary of the Kalamandalam Teachers' Association told The Hindu .

"The date for the meeting was not fixed after consulting me. I had other appointments for the day. No motive need be attributed to my absence. The protesters can verify my official programmes for the day and understand this," said Mr. Vadakkedathu.
