Action council flays laxity of police

Staff Reporter

`A section of the police force abetting the accused'

  • `Police inactive in spite of Home Minister's assurance'
  • `Constitute an efficient investigation team'
  • `Witnesses being threatened'

ALAPPUZHA: The `Kanichukulamgara Highway Mass murder Action Council' leaders said the State police was not taking effective step to arrest N.S. Sajith, the main accused.

Three persons including Everest Chit Fund chairman T.G. Ramesh were killed in an allegedly fake accident in which a lorry hit the car in which they were travelling on NH-47 at Kanichukulamgara here.

At a press conference here V.A. Hakeem, general convener of the action council and its convener V.S. Radhakrishnan said though Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had asked the police to take effective action to arrest Sajith, they had not done anything.

A section of the police were abetting Sajith to evade arrest, Mr. Hakeem said. He said Sajith was at present trying to finish off the co-accused in the case and his partner K.M. Binish who was at present lodged in the Thiruvanamthapuram central jail as they had parted ways.

Sajith was trying to kill Binish with the help of Unni and Ajith the other accused in the case who were believed to have executed the murder, said Mr. Hakkim.

He said he had reliable information that Unni and Ajith were still loyal to Sajith and may attack Binish. Mr. Hakeem said Binish had expressed his willingness to the police to reveal the whole conspiracy before the court and Sajith was feared that the confessions of Binish would nail him.

He said the accomplices of Sajith were threatening the witnesses in the case and the police should take steps to give them protection.

Mr. Hakeen said the top officials of the State police had told him that the action council should pin point the whereabouts of Sajith and then only they could arrest him. That was an irresponsible attitude and a special investigation team consisting of efficient and bold officials should be entrusted with the task of arresting Sajith, he said.
