JAIPUR: Rajasthan Forest, Environment and Mines Minister Laxminarain Dave on Wednesday underlined the need for establishing a bank of minerals and metal sectors in the State on the lines of the "land bank" set up by the local self Government bodies to attract major investments to these segments of economy. Mr. Dave, presiding over a review meeting of Minerals and Petroleum Department here, said the working conditions at mines would be improved together with the emphasis on investments. Health cards will be issued shortly to mine labourers to fulfil the promise made to them in this year's State Budget. Mr. Dave said the applications for allocation of mines pending till 2005 would be disposed of shortly by holding special camps. Targets for revenue collection will also be allotted to the department's officials and steps taken to check irregularities in this regard. State Mines Secretary Ashok Singhvi said the department had earned Rs. 175 crores as revenue till June in the current financial year, which was 19.5 per cent more than the earnings reported in the corresponding period last year. The collection of the due amount of Rs. 82 crores would be speeded up by regular monitoring, he added. The meeting was informed that the total revenue earnings last year amounted to Rs. 814 crores, while 27,830 cases pertaining to the department's activities had been disposed of during the past two-and-a-half years.
