Sri Tyagaraja Ramayanam series till July 27

Staff Reporter

Chennai: With her eyes closed, fingers held together in a yogic mudra and chants of invocatory verses in Sanskrit, Visakha Hari began her Sangeeta Upanyasam on Sri Tyagaraja Ramayanam at the Asthika Samajam in Alwarpet.

Organised by the Vedic Sangeeta Foundation, the Sri Tyagaraja Ramayanam series will go on every evening till July 27.

Inaugurating the event, Swami Gautamananda of the Ramakrishna Math said the country's Vedic culture was more than 15,000 years old and that the speciality of the Indian culture was its spiritual foundation. Advisory Board Member of the Foundation A.K. Ramamurthy said though Tyagaraja did not compose the Ramayanam, his Kritis contained all the descriptions found in the epic poem. Managing Director of Sri Krishna Sweets M. Murali also spoke.
