Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in K.K.Nagar between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday for maintenance work.

Blood donation

The Indian Red Cross Society conducted a blood donation camp on Monday at Sri Nallalaghu Polytechnic, Puzhal. A blood donation camp was organised at the Meenakshi Sundararajan College, Kodambakam, on Tuesday. More than 220 students donated blood on the occasion.

Health camp

Around 110 patients were screened and referred for treatment at the multispeciality health camp organised by the Public Health Centre, West Mambalam on Sunday.

Inaugurating the camp, M.S.Amaresan, a senior nephrologist in the city, said that developing countries must aim to prevent and arrest health problems such as kidney disease, diabetes and obesity at the early stage. In Chennai, 13 per cent of the population suffer from diabetes, making it important to detect the disease early. He lauded the centre for providing dialysis treatment at a nominal cost of Rs.625. Free medicines were given to patients at the centre as part of the camp. M.K. Srinivasan, centre's medical director and president participated.

Cameras stolen

Digital cameras worth about Rs. one lakh were stolen from a studio on Ramaswamy Street, West Tambaram. The incident came to light when employees opened the shop this morning. The culprits gained entry into the shop after bending a couple of iron grilles on the window. Though they had collected a large number of cameras, they left behind film-loading cameras on the premises, taking away only the digital ones, police said.
