Educational institutions to remain closed today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All educational institutions in Thiruvananthapuram district managed by the Syro Malabar, Syro Malankara and Latin dioceses will remain closed on Thursday. According to pastoral coordinator of the Syro Malabar church John V. Thadathil, the institutions would remain closed in protest against the incidents on Wednesday night in which the offices and buses of self-financing engineering colleges were attacked. Meanwhile, the Students Federation of India in a press note issued on Wednesday denied any involvement in the attack on the buses of the self-financing engineering colleges. — Staff Reporter

Corporation to intensify drive against begging

Thiruvananthapuram: The city Corporation has decided to intensify efforts to round up beggars and take them to the rehabilitation centre. At a review meeting at the Mayor's chamber on Tuesday, it was decided that beggars reaching the city would be rounded up once every week, Mayor C. Jayan Babu said. Mentally ill persons among the beggars would be subjected to medical examination and then sent to the Mental Health Centre, Oolanpara. — Staff Reporter
