Thiruvananthapuram: The district administration has decided to construct permanent houses to relocate families from the coastal areas in the city that are vulnerable to erosion. The decision was taken at a meeting convened by District Collector N. Ayyappan to discuss the rehabilitation of displaced families. The Collector directed Revenue officials to submit a report after identifying land to construct houses. The officials were asked to locate land near the coast in the worst- affected areas at Anchuthengu, Pozhiyoor, Paruthiyoor, Poovar, Sanghumukham, Beemapally, Kannanthura, Valiaveli, Valiathura, Pallithura, Puthenpalli, Vettukad and Pozhikara. Mr. Ayyappan called for separate reports on other areas threatened by erosion. The Irrigation department has been asked to submit recommendations on steps to prevent waterlogging at Adimalathura.
