Staff Reporter

Retd. Judge S.K. Aggarwal nominated

NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia Vice-Chancellor Mushirul Hasan on Wednesday nominated retired Delhi High Court Judge S.K. Aggarwal to enquire into the events that took place on the campus on Tuesday.

In a statement, Prof. Hasan said he had asked Justice Aggarwal to submit a comprehensive report on the findings along with suggestions and recommendations.

In a separate statement, University Proctor Rocket Ibrahim denied allegations about his involvement in the scuffle between "two groups of students" outside the Vice-Chancellor's office on Tuesday. He said he had just intervened to prevent the scuffle.

"A small group led by the outgoing student president Shams Parvez had been threatening teachers for the past few days. On Tuesday, they barged into the office of the Vice-Chancellor, came out after few minutes and then entered into a scuffle among themselves," said Prof. Ibrahim, adding that he had got a case registered against Shams Parvez, Danish Mirza, Shamshad Ahmad, Raza Karim and some other students and outsiders. Prof. Ibrahim admitted that he owned a pistol but claimed that he had never threatened anyone at gunpoint. "I have never carried it while on duty as Proctor," he claimed.
