Bangalore: The Karnataka Land Developers' Association on Tuesday passed a resolution urging the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) to approve applications regarding land conversions and layout approvals, which had been submitted till July 14. "The BMRDA decided on July 14 that it would stop giving approvals for conversions of land from agricultural to non-agricultural and for development of layouts. Developers have several projects at different stages of approval. All those should be approved," association general secretary R.V. Someshwaran said. He told The Hindu that BMRDA on July 17 announced that approvals would be stopped for the next five months in six regions around Bangalore Nelamangala, Magadi, Kanakpura, Anekal, Hoskote and the taluk area around Ramanagaram and Channapatna (called Area Planning Zone 1) as it was in the process of developing interim master plans for these zones. The resolution demanded that the master plans be based on the structural plan that the BMRDA announced on March 10, 2006 because the land developers had planned their layouts according to the structural plan. It asked the master plans be finished by December 31, 2006, set by the BMRDA. Expressing reservations on master plans being finished on time, Mr. Someshwaran said the decision by BMRDA would have a cascading effect on the construction industry.
