BANGALORE: Armed men waylaid drivers of two cars belonging to software companies, smashed the vehicles and made away with car stereos in separate incidents in HAL police station limits on Tuesday night. The police said that around 10.30 p.m. Anjanappa was returning home in Hebbal after dropping the employees of a software company in International Technology Park Ltd. On nearing Marathalli bridge, four men stopped his car. They assaulted Anjanappa, smashed the windscreens of the vehicle and stole the car stereos, the police said. An hour later, the gang waylaid Pradeep, a car driver who was returning home after dropping the employees of a software firm. The robbers made away with car stereos from Pradeep's vehicle after damaging it. The second incident occurred a few metres away from the Marathalli bridge, the police said.
House looted
Thieves looted Rs. 1 lakh in cash and gold ornaments and four mobile phones, together estimated at Rs. 75,000, from a wholesale cement dealer's house in Fraser Town police station limits. The police said the incident occurred at Hussain Sheriff's house on Lazar Road Cross in the early hours of Wednesday. The police said Sheriff and four members of his family had gone to sleep without locking the main door. The thieves made away with Rs. 50,000 that was in Sheriff's trouser pocket and Rs. 50,000 in cash and gold jewellery from a safe. On a complaint by Sheriff, the Fraser Town police have registered a case.
Chain snatched
A woman was robbed of her gold chain estimated at Rs. 10,000 in Koramangala police station limits on Tuesday evening. The police said that around 6 p.m. a youth snatched the chain from Geeta Anand (45) while she was walking near her house in HSR Layout.
Man murdered
A man aged 45 was found murdered on the railway tracks near Bidadi in Bangalore Rural district on Tuesday night. The police said the assailants had stabbed the man in the abdomen and smashed his head with a boulder. The body was found on Bangalore-Mysore tracks, about one kilometre from Bidadi. The City Railway police have registered a case.
Woman killed
A woman aged 55 was run over by a train near Anekal on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday. The Bayappanahalli railway police have registered a case.
