Refresher course in Home Science concludes

THE FIRST refresher course in Home Science at the Academic Staff College of Bangalore University concluded on Tuesday. The former MP P. Selvi Das, who was the chief guest, spoke about the abilities and potential in present day students.

She said the nomenclature of "home science" could be modified since it included a wide range of knowledge from nutrition to parenting. Course coordinator H.N. Premakumari and Director of Academic College Shivgnanamurthy spoke.

Seminar

The MES Teachers College, Bangalore Rural, in collaboration with the Gandhi Centre for Science and Human Values, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, is organising a UGC-sponsored seminar on Human Rights and Bharatiya Values on Friday.

The course is aimed at teacher educators, heads of secondary schools and prospective teachers in Bangalore.

The former Governor M. Rama Jois will deliver the keynote address and speakers include Justice A. Sadashiva and S.R. Rohidekar.

Programme for teachers

AS PART of its community development programme, PES Institute of Technology conducted a four-day orientation programme on multimedia teaching and developing teaching aids. The programme was to equip teachers at the high school level with teaching aids that make learning fun and easy to grasp.

BMS College of Engineering

BMS COLLEGE OF Engineering, Bull Temple Road, is now offering two community service programmes under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme of the Centre and funded by the World Bank.

One of the courses would be a one-week job-oriented training in welding methods for job-seeking youth and the second a two-week training on e-mail and Internet skills for housewives. The two programmes will be conducted at the college in August.

There are no fees and the minimum educational qualification is SSLC. Registration forms are available at the college. For details, call 26614359.

NMKRV College

NMKRV COLLEGE FOR Women, Jayanagar, in association with the Indian Institute of Fashion Technology, is conducting a short-term diploma course in fashion designing and dress making at the college premises.
