This Day That Age
Andhra and Telengana Congress leaders, who met the Union Home Minister, Mr. G.B. Pant, in New Delhi on July 19 have agreed that the name of the reorganised State may be Andhra Pradesh. So far as regional councils are concerned, there has not been any serious controversy. Members of the Assembly of the Telengana region will constitute a permanent standing committee whose advice will be sought on what used to be described as "transferred subjects" under the old British rule of dyarchy. Prohibition will also be one of the subjects coming within the purview of the standing committee. The position of non-Telugu Government employees has been safeguarded by providing that they should learn Telugu within a period of two years.
