Harsh Mankad stuns Luke Bourgeois

NEW DELHI: Harsh Mankad upset seventh seed Luke Bourgeois of Australia 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the $25,000 Challenger tennis tournament at Manchester. He will meet Jean-Francois Bachelot of France in the pre-quarterfinals.

In the $75,000 Challenger at Aptos, California, Karan Rastogi in partnership with Go Soeda of Japan beat Patrick Briaud of the U.S. and Juan-Manuel Elizondo of Mexico 6-2, 6-2 in the pre-quarterfinals.

Divij in doubles semifinals

Divij Sharan made the doubles semifinals in the $10,000 ITF men's Futures tournament at Bucharest, Romania.

Divij and Bogdan Leonte of Romania edged out Alexandru Carpen of Romania and Danilo Zivanovic of Australia 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-3 in the quarterfinals. However, in the singles, Divij lost to top seed Victor Ionita of Romania 4-6, 0-6.

In the $10,000 ITF women's tournament at Bangkok, fourth seed Parul Goswami lost 2-6, 2-6 to Po-Kuen Lam of Hong Kong. Parul's campaign ended as she in the company of Vishika Chhetri went down 0-6, 5-7 to Kai-Chen Chang of Chinese Taipei and Thuy-Dung Nguyen of Vietnam in the doubles quarterfinals.
