A break from the blistering heat

It was a much-awaited respite from the scorching heat.

Maduraites heaved sigh of relief as a brief downpour lashed the city on Thursday evening. The mercury level was high during the last few days forcing road users to remain indoors after noon. Though the temperature was no different on Thursday, the weather turned cloudy at around 3 p.m.

What looked like a drizzle turned out to be a downpour in many parts of Madurai.

The people, mostly students and office-goers were seen huddled under shelters.

Even as the rain hardly lasted an hour, some low-lying areas and uneven roads were inundated.
