NEW DELHI: International Master Vishal Sareen and Woman Grandmaster Eesha Karavade forced creditable draws against fancied rivals in the third round of the 11th Balaguer International Open chess tournament at Balaguer on Wednesday. On a day when all overnight Indian leaders failed to win, Sareen drew with fourth-seeded Russian Grandmaster Vladimir Burmakin, rated 2558, and Eesha held sixth seed IM Nidjat Mamedov of Azerbaijan. Seven players share the lead with three points each. The results (third round, involving Indians): Vishal Sareen (2.5) drew with Vladimir Burmakin (Rus, 2.5); Lanka Ravi (2) lost to Renier Castellanos (Chi, 3); S. Satyapragyan (2.5) drew with P. Konguvel (2.5); Abhijeet Gupta (2.5) drew with Guillermo Baches Garcia (Esp, 2.5); Aleksander Delchev (Bul, 2.5) bt G.N. Gopal (2); Eesha Karavade (2) drew with Nidjat Mamedov (Aze, 2); S. Kidambi (2) drew with Jose Ramon Perez (Esp, 2); Sahaj Grover (1.5) lost to Herman Van Riemsdijk (Bra, 2.5); Willem Hajenius (Bel, 1) lost to Dinesh Sharma (2); Gisela Ramoneda Rumi (Cat, 1) lost to Abhyudaya Rajpurohit (2).
