ANANTAPUR: In the continuing series of attacks on TDP supporters, activists and leaders in the district, properties belonging to two TDP leaders were attacked and damaged allegedly by Congress supporters at Tadipatri after midnight on Wednesday. According to the police and information reaching here, the attacks on properties were allegedly carried out after district president of TDP minorities' cell Jilani Basha had an altercation with a few Congress leaders in the market area in Tadipatri on Wednesday and escaped an attack on him late in the night allegedly by 30 Congress men led by S.V. Ravindra Reddy and Javed.
House ransacked
After escaping, Jilani Basha ran into the nearby urban police station after leaving his two-wheeler in the market area. The Congress supporters allegedly first torched his two-wheeler and raided his residence in Chinna Bazar area with lethal weapons. They ransacked his house after warning his wife and children that they would kill him. Another two-wheeler belonging to a TDP supporter, living beside Jilani Basha's house, was also torched . Next, they proceeded to a beedi factory belonging TDP secretary H. Fayaz Basha and damaged some furniture. Later, they reached the two granite polishing units belonging to Fayaz Basha at Chukkaluru in two four-wheelers and broke a large number of valuable granite slabs and also damaged a polishing machine.
TDP charge
TDP leaders Fayaz Basha and Peram Nagi Reddy reached the spot and alleged that the police intentionally arrived late. Meanwhile, Tadipatri urban CI T. Sambasiva Rao said that the TDP leaders could have scripted the attack to blame it on their rivals. The TDP leaders alleged that the police are dancing to the tunes of Panchayat Raj Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy and his brother J.C. Prabhakar Reddy. Fayaz Basha said that the damage caused to his polishing units was Rs. 10 lakhs. Tadipatri DSP Y. Nagabhushan Reddy also visited the attack sites. The police registered three cases -- two in urban police station and one in rural station -- against Ravindra Reddy, Javed and 30 other Congress cadre.
