Many attend Bhajan Lal's Kurukshetra show

Son hits out again at Hooda Government

CHANDIGARH: Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, who recently resigned as president of the Haryana unit of the Congress, on Thursday received a "boost'' when hundreds of his supporters, including two sitting MLAs and several former Ministers and former MLAs, took part in a meeting convened by him at Kurukshetra.

According to highly-placed sources, this was Mr. Bhajan Lal's first formal meeting with his supporters after he resigned alleging that loyal and veteran party workers had been "sidelined'' in the newly-constituted HPCC which was announced last month. They said that at least 3,000 people gathered at a private hotel in Kurukshetra to welcome the former Chief Minister.

Besides sitting MLAs Mange Ram Gupta and Dharampal Singh Malik, former MP Ramji Lal, former Ministers Surender Madan and Om Parkash Beri and several other former MLAs attended the show.

Also present was Mr. Bhajan Lal's younger son and sitting MP from Bhiwani, Kuldeep Bishnoi.

Sources said Mr.Bhajan Lal thanked his supporters for the overwhelming response and assured them that he would continue to struggle for their rights within the Congress.

He also asked them not to burn effigies of a Central party leader.

Mr.Bishnoi, however, once again hit out at the Hooda Government for doing "injustice'' to the people, especially the farmers, by "acquiring their lands at throwaway prices and handing over the same to a corporate house''.

He also charged that the veteran workers had not only been "sidelined'' but the contribution of his father to the party had been "ignored'' by the powers that be.

He also announced that Mr. Bhajan Lal would hold a rally in the near future though he did not specify the time and venue.
