NEW DELHI: The ruling Congress in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has taken a U-turn in the matter relating to alleged bungling in allotment of plots to dairy owners at Ghogha in Nerala. Its leadership in the Standing Committee on Wednesday refused to conduct a vigilance inquiry into the matter. At the last meeting of the MCD Standing Committee, its Chairman Jai Kishan Sharma had ordered a vigilance inquiry after Municipal Commissioner A. K. Nigam accepted that he too had received complaints regarding fake allotment of plots in the upcoming colony for unauthorised dairy owners of Delhi. However, senior Congress Councillors, including House Leader Jitender Kochar and Brij Mohan Sharma, said since the entire project was being monitored by the court, conducting a vigilance inquiry would amount to interference in the court's job. However, Congress Councillor Shrish Chand Tiwari, who had first raised the issue, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Standing Committee, Vijender Gupta, alleged that inquiry was not being conducted to save corrupt officials. Both Mr. Tiwari and Mr. Gupta claimed that they had documents to prove that the civic body's Veterinary Officer in charge of the project was conniving with property dealers and unscrupulous elements. The land was supposed to be allotted on a first-come-first-served basis but the allocation process so far was unfair and many plots, including some at prime locations, had been allotted to property dealers and unscrupulous elements, they added.
