Corporation Red Flag union stages protest

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation Red Flag Union on Thursday staged a demonstration to draw attention to their demands for regularisation of jobs, better wages and filling up of vacancies.

S. Purushothaman, general secretary, said there were 2,512 Corporation employees (including 2,060 sanitary workers) working as daily wage earners for several years.

They deserved permanent jobs, bonus and better working conditions.

Promotions would also serve as an incentive for the employees to work better.

Adequate cleaning equipment such as brooms, baskets and garbage collection tricycles were needed, sanitary workers said at the demonstration.
