Police lathicharge Electricity employees

HYDERABAD: The police on Thursday lathicharged agitating members of the CITU-affiliated United Electricity Employees Union when they picketed the office of the Central Power Distribution Company Limited in Singareni Bhavan.

Union members began their protest at around 10 a.m. demanding that the Government recruit linemen working on contract for more than a decade to the post of the contract junior linemen. As the protest continued till afternoon, the police stepped in and caned the activists resulting in minor injuries to several of them.

More than 300 activists who were arrested on the spot were moved to Goshamahal from where they were later released. Bailable cases were registered against some of the leaders.

Meanwhile, the CITU city committee condemned the lathicharge.
