NEW DELHI: The Anti-Auto Theft Squad of the South West Delhi police claims to have solved over 40 cases of burglary and house theft with the arrest of five Bangladesh nationals who were caught in the possession of a loaded country-made pistol, a revolver, a dagger, a big iron cutter and nylon ropes. The arrested persons, of Jehangirpuri in North West Delhi, included 20-year-old Shaukat Ali who was allegedly caught with a loaded country-made pistol. The other accused have been identified as Akhtar (19), Sheikh Anabul (20), Mohammad Hanif (20) and Sheikh Anwar (27). The police said that following cases of burglary and house thefts recently they had intensified patrolling. On Wednesday evening, a team of the Anti-Auto Theft Squad while patrolling in Vasant Kunj received a tip-off that members of the Shaukat Ali gang would assemble at a DDA park in Vasant Kunj. A trap was laid and all the accused nabbed from the spot. The police said, the accused allegedly disclosed that they had assembled to rob a jewellery shop in Vasant Kunj. The police claimed that the accused confessed to their involvement in more than 40 cases of burglaries and house thefts in North-West, West and South-West Delhi. They disclosed that during day time, they used to work as rag-pickers and in the night, they used to strike at the selected houses.
