Bangalore: "Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd. (KPCL) is geared to face challenges of the future. We will be able to generate over 20,000 MW of power in 15 to 20 years," said Power Minister H.D. Revanna. The Minister was speaking at the 37th Foundation Day celebrations of the KPCL here on Thursday. He was three hours behind schedule for the function. Mr. Revanna said several schemes were in place to increase the generating capacity from 4,640 MW to 5,000 MW. He said that the first unit of the Bellary Thermal Power Station (BTPS) would be commissioned in this financial year. Six projects with a generating capacity of 4,000 MW would be implemented in the State.
Eighth unit of RTPS
"We plan to commission the eighth unit of Raichur Thermal Power Station with 250 MW generating capacity and the second unit of Varahi project with a capacity of 230 MW," he said.
Prize
The RTPS sixth unit won the first prize for functioning continuously for over 200 days, the second unit of RTPS secured the second prize. The Kappadagunda Wind Farm secured the special prize. The Minister gave away prizes to employees of KPCL, who had completed 25 years of service. He gave away certificates and mementos to the children of KPCL employees, who had scored high marks in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate and Pre-University Course examination. L.V. Nagarajan, Managing Director of KPCL; Bharat Lal Meena, Managing Director of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd; Gonal Bheemappa, Managing Director of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company; and senior officials of KPCL were present.
