Scheme seeks to redirect funding

Scheme will "not be consistent with National Policy on Education" It will result in higher expenditure, says Ministry
NEW DELHI:
The Union Human Resources Development (HRD) Ministry has rejected the Planning Commission's proposal to introduce a Voucher Scheme in the XI Five Year Plan to "promote equity and quality in schooling in areas where adequate private supply exists" as an alternative to setting up more government schools.
In its response to the Commission's draft Approach Paper for the XI Plan, the Ministry said the scheme "would not be consistent with the National Policy on Education." Also, it is not a viable alternative to setting up more government schools, as the education gap is more in rural areas where there are very few private schools.
