Bangalore: The riders opened the throttle, ready to face the road ahead. The "Wild to Ocean" motorcycle rally organised by Adventure Sports Association of India (ASAI) was flagged off by Principal Chief Conservator (Wildlife) A.K. Varma here on Friday. The rally will pass through Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Mahe and Kerala, covering 2,000 km. Babu T. Raghu, rally leader, was enthused by the spirit of adventure and sensitivity shown by the participants. Nearly 20 college students and a couple of lecturers will be rallying through wildlife sanctuaries, hill stations and forests from July 21 to August 1. Wildlife conservation awareness, plastic-free wild, anti-poaching and forestation initiatives would be featured in the rally. Shailaja, a student from NITTE and also the only woman rider, was confident about achieving the objectives of the rally. In their major camps, the participants have planned for plastic clean-up drives and educating rural people on saving wildlife. Students from various colleges, including seven girls, carried placards on conserving natural resources as they took off from the city. Priyanka, a student from Maharani Lakshmi Ammani College, said: "This initiative, while inculcating adventurism, will also sensitise people on environmental issues." Environmentalist Suresh Hablikar, who was present at the flag-off, asked the participants to spread the message of wildlife protection.
