BANGALORE: The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) is embroiled in controversy once again. After the recent scandal involving marking up the grades for 16 students, some doctors are alleging malpractices in Senate elections. A group of doctors on Thursday alleged that RGUHS allowed addition to the voter's list even after the last date. Addressing presspersons here, M.K. Ramesh of Bangalore Medical College claimed that over 3,000 names were added to the list after the last date was announced. Dr. Ramesh said some of the voters were not even teachers in hospitals. In one case, he said, the driver of one of the members standing for the elections was allowed to vote. "Voter identity cards were doctored in such a way that the name of a doctor, who was attached to a hospital, was used, but the photo and signature of the person on the card was that of an impostor," he said. The doctors added that some of them did not even get their voter identity cards. The RGUHS, in a communiqué, had said that due to postal delays some of the identity cards could not reach in time. They had authorised the doctors and teachers to use identity cards, including their passports, driving licences and debit cards. The doctors have sent a letter to Governor T.N. Chaturvedi in this connection. RGUHS Registrar Hukkeri was unavailable for comment.
