Pondicherry :A three-day national symposium `Current Trends in Medicinal Plants and Herbal Technology' will be held at the convention-cum-cultural centre of Pondicherry University at Kalapet from Saturday. Professor and Head, Department of Plant Science of the Kaanchi Maamunivar Centre for Post Graduate Studies V. Ramasamy in a release said Chief Minister N. Rangasamy would inaugurate the programme and B.S. Sajwan, Chief Executive Officer of the National Medicinal Plants Board, among others, would address participants. Delegates from different parts of the country will take part in the deliberations and professors, research scholars and members of non-governmental organisations would present around 140 research papers. The meet will discuss strategies to safeguard medicinal plants. Focus will also be on producing medicinal plants of high quality and availing the advancements made in modern technology. The programme will forward suggestions to policymakers as a follow-up measure. The Kaanchi Mamunivar Centre for PG Studies is organising the symposium.
