No due certificates issued to farmers

Farm loans to the tune of Rs 55 lakh written off for 369 farmers

VILLUPURAM: At a function held at Soundaravallipalayam near here recently, Union Minister of State for Law K. Venkatapathi issued "no due certificates" to 369 farmers, thereby writing off farm loans to the tune of Rs 55 lakh.

While speaking on the occasion Mr. Venkatapathi said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was sensitive to the problems of the farmers. The Chief Minister was keen on improving their lot and therefore, soon after assuming office he waived the farm loans.

The Minister also gave away Rs 25,000 each as loan to two women self-help groups, sanctioned by the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Banks.

District Collector Ashish Chatterji, Angayarkanni and T. Udayasooriyan, MLAs, and officials participated.
