Minister distributes loans to physically challenged persons

UPLIFTMENT: Pondicherry Welfare Minister P. Angalane distributing loan to a physically challenged person in Pondicherry on Friday.

Pondicherry: Welfare Minister P. Angalane distributed Rs 13.71 lakh to 39 physically challenged persons on Friday to enable them to start self-employment projects.

The loan was under a scheme of the government sponsored Corporation for Development of Women and Physically Challenged persons.

Mr. Angalane said the Pondicherry government was firm on ensuring that the weaker sections , the physically challenged and also the have-nots were assisted in economic empowerment.

The Corporation had drawn up a plan to cover 55 persons with a loan distribution of Rs 21.21 crore. Thirty nine persons were covered in the first phase.

The beneficiaries were selected from among the applications received during 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 financial year.

MLA R.Siva and Corporation chairperson M.K. Sayeekumari were among those who spoke. The Managing Director of the Corporation R V Swathanthirakumari proposed a vote of thanks.
