Hat-trick by Yo. Mahesh; India wins series

London: India put up a fine display to thrash England by nine wickets in the second one-dayer and clinch the three-match under-19 One-Day International series at Sofia Gardens here on Thursday. Yo. Mahesh performed a hat-trick while polishing off the England tail.

The host's decision to bat first backfired, as it was bowled out for a paltry 164 in 44.5 overs. Ishant Sharma rocked the England top order with three wickets, including a first ball dismissal of skipper Varun Chopra.

Adam Lyth was the top scorer with 36, before he was bowled by Ishant. Mark Nelson (26) and Ben Wright (23) chipped in, but none of the other English batsmen made an impression.

Aziz goes on the rampage

Chasing the modest target, India lost just one wicket and romped home with more than 20 overs to spare. Aziz Parveez provided the fireworks, smashing a 55-ball 79 before holing out to Andrew Miller off Moeen Ali. His innings included 15 hits to the fence.

Wicketkeeper Uday Kaul (58 not out) and Sumit Sharma (23 not out) saw the tourist home.

The scores: England under-19 164 in 44.5 overs (Adam Lyth 36, Ishant Sharma three for 30, Yo. Mahesh three for 29) lost to India under-19 165 for one in 29.2 overs (Aziz Parveez 79, Uday Kaul 58 n.o.). — UNI
