POINTING FINGERS: Former Minister K. Jayaram speaking at a dharna organised by the TDP protesting against the hike in prices of essential commodities at Anantapur on Friday.
ANANTAPUR: District unit Telugu Desam Party leaders have alleged that by allowing price hike of essential commodities, the State and Central Governments have burdened the poor and middle class. Many commodities are out of reach of these sections in the recent months, they said. Party members, led by former Rajya Sabha member K.M. Saifullah, former Minister K. Jayaram, A. Narasa Naidu, Parveen Banu, staged a dharna in front of the Revenue Divsional Office here on Friday. Frequent hike in petrol and diesel prices was also having severe impact on the prices of essential commodities, they said and added that the Government was taking care of only affluent categories leaving the poor and middle class to their fate. The Government had issued ration cards but was not issuing the commodities for the new cards or cut the quota per card. The Government was now planning to deceive the farmers on free power by asking them to instal ISI-mark pump sets and other implements to avail the benefit or else they would lose it. They appealed to the Government to take steps to bring down the prices and also supply all essential commodities through fair price shops.
