BANGALORE : The countdown for the Asian Youth (under-21) netball championship has begun with the arrival of teams. Singapore and Hong Kong squads had practice sessions at Sree Kanteerava indoor Stadium on Friday. Coach of the Singapore team, Ms. Yeo Meen Hong said, "we finished third in the last championship in 2004 and we hope to figure in the title round. The team has prepared well and we have good blend of experienced and new players. There are four players, including captain Ling Yi, who had played in the last Asian Youth tournament." The coach felt that Sri Lanka and Malaysia are the teams to beat in the tournament and India too could be formidable playing on the home turf. "We plan to take each match on its merit and the first objective is top our pool and qualify for the semifinals," said. Yeo, a former National player, praised the playing arena. "It is good, but for practice, they could switched on more lights," she added. The other teams including Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and The Maldives are expected arrive later in the night. There is still no word on the Pakistan team. "I hope they make it here before the draw," said Mr. B. Mohan Kumar organising secretary. Meanwhile, the two -day Asian Coaches Clinic will be held at Central College from Saturday.
