BANGALORE: R. Elangovan of the The Hindu claimed a double in the Press Club of Bangalore's inter-media carrom championship at the KGS Club hall here on Friday. He won the singles title, beating Sridhar of all India Radio 25-9, 25-0 and later in the doubles final, The Hindu pair of Elangovan and D. Janardhan beat Riaz and Sridhar of AIR 25-19, 13-25, 25-23. Press Club won the badminton team event title beating The Hindu 2-0 in the final. Krishnakumar of PCB beat Rajiv of `The Hindu' in the singles at 15-7, 15-0. Later Krishnakumar teamed up with Sadhashiva Shenoy and sewed up the triumph for PCB with a 15-1,15-9 win over the Hindu pair of Rajnathan and Elanchezhian.
SBMJC wins overall title
Shree Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College claimed the overall title in the Pegasus 2006 sports meet conducted by the Christian Medical College at Vellore from July 13 to 14. SBMJC won the titles in badminton (men) and tennis (men and women), besides finishing as runner-up in table tennis (men and women), basketball (women) and hockey (men).
Exciting win
Vidyaranyapura Sports Club snatched an exciting 30-28 victory over YFBC, Kolar in the State Youth Basketball championship at Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here on Friday. Vidyaranyapura trailed 9-13 at half-time, but came back strongly in the third quarter to the wrest the initiative from its rival. In another close match, Rajmahal SC beat Falcons SC 28-26. The results: Rajmahal SC 28 (Praveen 9) bt Falcons SC 26. Bhagwan SC , Gulbarga 23 ( Suresh Powar 11) bt PPC BC 22 (Tapan 12).YMMA 24 bt Bangalore Sporting 18. Vidyaranayapura 30 (Prashanth 16) bt YFBC, Kolar 28 ( Manjunath 10).
Under-11 chess
