Chandigarh: The Haryana Government has drafted a long-term plan to maintain the sophisticated structure of the industrial district of Gurgaon and to accommodate its projected urban population of about 37 lakhs by 2021. A spokesman for the Town and Country Planning Department said that under the `Gurgaon-Manesar Urban Complex Development Plan' for 2021 AD, an additional area of 23,845 hectares had been added in the form of urbanisable area so as to accommodate another 15-lakh additional projected population by 2021. So far in the existing towns and villages of the district, a population of 22 lakhs could be accommodated.
The Plan envisages accommodation of 37-lakh population
He said that provision of additional road-links between Delhi and Gurgaon and Special Economic Zones had been made in the plan.
Similarly, the extent of various land uses, such as residential, commercial, industrial, transport and communication, public utilities, public and semi-public use, open spaces, special zone, defence land and special economic zones, had also been elaborately mentioned in the Plan.
He said that in order to cater to the projected population of 37 lakhs in 2021, an area of 14,380 hectares had been reserved for residential purpose only.
An area on 8000 hectares of land had already been developed as residential sectors that were accommodating a population of 22 lakhs. The additional area proposed in the development plan would cater to the residential demand of the remaining 15-lakh projected population.
The Plan, he said, also specified areas for recreation and entertainment, commercial, group housing and institutional uses. Zoning Regulations also formed part of this development plan. The sectors would be developed exclusively by the government or government undertakings or a public authority approved by the government. For the development of sectors reserved for commercial use, private developers would be permitted to the extent of 50 per cent of the sector area as approved by the competent authority, he added. - UNI.
