Murder case re-trial demanded

NEW DELHI: A group of Delhi University students have decided to campaign for a re-trial in the Priyadarshini Mattoo murder case. Members of United Students will distribute pamphlets and also send out messages through SMS and e-mail.

Film actors Anupam Kher and Roshan Seth and management guru Shiv Khera will also join the rally called jointly by "Justice for Priyadarshini" and United Students at Jantar Mantar here on Sunday to demand re-trial in the case in which the prime accused was acquitted.

DUJ demands Wage Board

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Union of Journalists has demanded that the Union Government immediately constitute a Wage Board for journalists and other newspaper employees.

In a statement, DUJ said the Union Government, which has announced the formation of the Sixth Pay Commission for its employees, should not shy away from its statutory duty of setting up a Wage Board under the Working Journalists Act.

`No censorship on RTI Act'

NEW DELHI: PHDCCI on Friday said that the Government's decision to amend the Right to Information Act, 2005, to exclude side notes on official files concerning all areas except the social and development projects would be used as a shield by the bureaucracy. "The right to information should not come with any riders as it will amount to denial of information itself."

In a statement, PHDCCI Secretary-General Bibek Debroy said there could be no justification for excluding file notings from the purview of Right to Information Act. "This censorship will render the Act meaningless."

Symposium on health

NEW DELHI: The Department of Paediatrics at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital here is organising a symposium on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) here this Sunday.

According to World Health Organisation, ADHD is one of the most common behavioural disorders in school children. In a class of 40 students, there are a couple of children in need of interventions at school and at home. School teachers, counsellors, paediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, special educators, occupational therapists, speech therapists from Delhi and the National Capital Region will attend the symposium.

Balanji cremated

NEW DELHI: Veteran Janata Dal (United) leader Neelkanth Balkrishnan, who passed away in the Capital on Thursday, was cremated at the Lodi Road crematorium on Friday. A large number of people including party president Sharad Yadav attended the funeral.
