Candidates get allotment letters

MADURAI: General counselling for admission to under-graduate engineering courses began in the city on Friday as part of Anna University's simultaneous counselling at four centres — Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi and Madurai— in the State.

On the first day, 104 candidates were called for counselling at Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE) here.

As the counselling commenced, candidates and their parents made the choice of engineering college and allotment letters were immediately handed over to the candidate after the admission formalities were completed.

The first student to receive the allotment letter was S.R. Ajith Kumar, who opted for Computer Science and Engineering at College of Engineering, Guindy, Chennai.

Authorities from Anna University who were here to monitor the counselling process and the TCE Principal, V. Abhai Kumar, handed over the allotment letter to him whose cut-off mark was 293.33.

He had secured 35th rank in the professional courses entrance examinations.

One-month exercise

E. Arumugham, Coordinator from Anna University, told reporters that counselling would be held in six sessions on the first two days and eight sessions from July 23.

The number of candidates in a day would be over 300 from next week, he said and added that counselling would be held on all days for one month, including Saturdays and Sundays, barring government holidays.

According to Anna University authorities, adequate technical preparations have made here for the candidates to see the vacancy positions in colleges before making a choice.

The date of reporting at the chosen college is mentioned in the allotment order.

The three coordinators representing the Anna University are E. Arumugam, S. Shankar and D. George Washington.
