TNEB, Metrowater to be impleaded in case

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and the Metrowater are to be impleaded as parties relating to the regularisation of buildings constructed in violation of building laws.

A direction to this effect was given by the First Bench of the Madras High Court comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice D. Murugesan on Friday. It also noted that it would now hear all related matters, including those pertaining to the CMDA besides these two bodies, and dispose them of together. The matter has been adjourned to August 16 for further proceedings.

The Bench decided to hear all regularisation-related cases after a public interest litigation petition was filed by K.R. Ramaswamy on the road space crunch and shortage of parking provisions in new buildings in T.Nagar and NSC Bose Road areas. Later, an additional affidavit was filed questioning the grant of power and water connection to these buildings.
