Pensioners want parity upgrade

Staff Reporter

Issue to be taken up at the ongoing 27th annual meet of Federation

CHENNAI: Pensioners led by the All India Federation of Pensioners' Associations have resolved to press their demand to upgrade parity to the Sixth Pay Commission.

The Federation, which began its two-day 27th annual general body meeting on Friday, will seek parity with retirees as of January 1, 2006.

As of now, the parity is pegged to January 1, 1986 as recommended by the Fifth Pay Commission.

Members also proposed the establishment of a confederation to serve as the voice of pensioners of diverse departments across the country.

Pensioners are also seeking extension of medical benefits, for members, to non-CGHS facilities and grant of interim relief, said M. S. Narasimhan, editor of `Pensioner's Advocate'.
