Around the City

Power shutdown

There will be a power shutdown in some areas of the city from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The shutdown is being done to facilitate road-widening works.

The areas which will not have power are: Jail Road, Municipal Office area, Rednam Gardens, Gollapalem, Ram Nagar, Nehru Nagar, Waltair Main Road, Seven Hills Hospital, Care Hospital, Martanda Apartments, Rockdale Layout, Apollo Hospital and Anthony Nagar.

Similarly, there will be a power cut to facilitate maintenance works from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the following areas: East Point Colony, KDPM High School and VUDA Park area.

New phone directory

Copies of the New Telephone Directory - 2006 of Visakhapatnam Telecom District will be distributed to all BSNL landline and fixed WLL telephone customers through BSNL customer service centres in the city, the Teleshoppes at Asilametta and Gajuwaka and the CTO at Velampeta from Tuesday.

Customers can have their free copies on production of their latest telephone bill dated either June 7 or July 7.

`Snacks dhamaka'

Dolphin Hotel is conducting a "Weekend snacks dhamaka" at its Poolside on Saturday. The snacks like papdi chat, pani puri, bhel puri, fried idli, rawa idli, masala vada, Mysore bajji, rice kheer, hot jelabi, bellam garelu and capsicum dosa promise to give a new experience to food lovers.

The festival will be on from 7 p.m. onwards.

Prohibitory orders

Prohibitory orders will be in force from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in and around the Municipal Corporation Office at Asilametta and in and around the TLN Sabha Hall of Andhra University in view of the union elections in the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation and the hostel elections in Andhra University.
