NEW DELHI: An alleged gangster wanted in several cases of murder, attempt to murder, robbery and extortion was killed in an encounter with the Special Cell of the Delhi police on Thursday. His accomplice has also been arrested. Acting on a tip-off, a Special Cell team arrested Amit Bansal at Uttam Nagar in West Delhi on Thursday. A .38-bore country-made revolver and five live cartridges were recovered from his possession. During interrogation, he revealed that alleged gangster, Dinesh Chulkian alias Dinesh Gujjar, would be coming to meet him near Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology in Dwarka. The suspect appeared on the scene in a Santro car around 10-30 p.m. When the waiting police team asked him to surrender, Dinesh tried to flee and then opened fire at them. Dinesh sustained bullet injuries in the retaliatory fire. He was taken to Safdarjung Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Dinesh was wanted in a murder case reported at Samalkha in Haryana in March. He and his accomplices had killed one Vijay with whom he had an old rivalry. In 1999, Dinesh had killed Vijay's brother Shripal. The Haryana police were looking for him in connection with the case. The police said Dinesh also used to threaten and extort money from the businessmen of Samalkha. The slain gangster was active in Samalkha where he had more than six cases registered against him. Dinesh was involved in at least nine cases in Delhi reported from various areas of West, South and North-West Delhi. Efforts are now on to trace and arrest his accomplices identified as Raman Sharma, Ravinder Kumar, Pradeep and Rakesh Bansal.
