NEW DELHI: The Delhi Jal Board on Friday approved strengthening of security at its installations through deployment of Central Industrial Security Force personnel on contract basis. The decision was taken at its meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in which newly appointed Vice-Chairman Bhisham Sharma and the renominated members Kanwar Karan Singh and Rambir Singh Bidhuri were welcomed by her. As for the Sonia Vihar water treatment plant, the Board said the work of flushing and treatment was proceeding as per schedule. This exercise, the Board said, would be completed within the next 10 days. The Board also approved authorisation of the Department of Post for collection of water bills through post offices and approved distribution of water bills in North and North West Districts by it. The launch of a customer welfare scheme to check contamination of water was also approved. Further, the Board said while DJB had on June 15 introduced a scheme whereby a consumer could hire the services of a licensed plumber for rusted or corroded pipelines, the services have now been extended on "no profit no loss" basis to those customers who want to install the more durable and corrosion free MDPE pipes. The Board also extended the rebate scheme for water and sewerage development charges to July 31.
