J.C. Foundation awards announced

KOCHI: `Achuvinte Amma,' directed by Sathyan Anthikad, has been selected as the best picture by the J.C. Foundation for the 2005 awards. However, the award for the best director has gone to Blessy for `Thanmatra.'

Mohanlal has been selected for the best actor award for his performance as an Alzheimer's disease afflicted person in `Thanmatra.' Kavya Madhavan has bagged the best actor award for her performances in `Annorikkal' and `Ananthabhadram.'

Mammootty has bagged the Star of the Year award for his roles in various films during the year. Special awards will be given to Dileep for his role in `Chandupottu' and Bhavana for her role in `Daivanamathil.'

The best supporting actor awards in male category has been bagged by Kalashala Babu for his roles in `Thommanum Makkalum' and `Ben Johnson' and best supporting actor (female category) by Bindu Panickar for her roles in `Bus Conductor' and `Udayan.'

K.M. Roy, chairman of the award committee, announced the awards here on Friday at a press meet. He said the third J.C. Foundation awards would be presented at a function on August 17 at the Fine Arts Hall.

Anwar Rashid has bagged the best new director award for `Rajamanikyam' and best new face award has been bagged by Manikuttan for his role in `Boyfriend.' In the female category, the award winner is Mamata for `Mayukham.' Best child artiste award in male and female categories have been given to Master Aswin in `Rajamanikyam' and Baby Niranjana in `Thanmatra' respectively. Best screenplay award goes to Aryadan Shaukat for `Daivanamathil,' best singer (male) to Vineeth Sreenivasan for Omanapuzha... (`Chandupottu') and best singer (female) to Manjari for Oru chiri kandal... (`Ponmudipuzhayorathu').

Sudhakaran Mangalodayam has been selected for the award for best novelist for `Sahadharmini.'

The awards have been instituted by the foundation in the memory of film director J.C. Daniel by his family and friends.
