Bangalore: The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) on Friday announced that the property tax system would be integrated with the Geographical Information System (GIS) by October 16. "The GIS system can help us track whether all properties in the wards have been taxed and whether the type of use has been correctly reported," said BMP Commissioner K. Jairaj at a press meet. Stating that no results have yet been derived out of the GIS mapping of 30 wards in the city, he said that financial resources of the BMP could be augmented if the system was used effectively. The e-governance initiative on property tax would enable people to pay tax through credit cards and at offices and banks, among other places. Presenting a detailed report on the initiatives, Srikanth Nadhamuni, managing trustee of eGovernments Foundation, laid out a timeline for the e-governance initiatives in the BMP. He said that the civic body's website would be revamped and made interactive by August 15. "The website will contain static as well as transactional data and will be in Kannada and English," he said. The e-governance initiative also plans to improve works undertaken at the ward level in two phases one by December 15 and the other by February 15 next year. Stating that ward-wise management would enlist the work to be done in every ward, Mr. Nadhamuni said that it would also contain finances required, billing details and tender processes and would be accessible to the public. A public grievance redressal system would be set up by September 15. People can register their complaints through Internet . The complaint would be routed to the officer concerned who would then assign it to the in-charge engineers. When asked about people who do not have access to Internet, Mr. Nadhamuni said, "The people will also be able to register their complaints through telephone or in person at the BMP offices."
