BANGALORE: A youth threw chilli powder at two persons at a restaurant in Vyalikaval police station limits on Thursday and made away with their mobile phones, together worth Rs. 34,000. The police said that around 9.15 p.m. B. Nagesh, a resident of Nandini Layout, and his friend Anju Chengappa were having fruit juice at the restaurant on 2nd Main, Vyalikaval. While they were busy in a conversation, a youth threw chilli powder on their faces and stole the two mobile phones they had kept on the table. On a complaint by Nagesh, the Vyalikaval police have registered a case. On Wednesday evening, a youth had stolen two mobile phones, together worth Rs. 45,000, from a café in Malleswaram police station limits. Sumith Arora, a resident of HMT Layout in Vidyaranyapura, and his friend had come to the café on 18th Cross, Malleswaram. They had kept their mobile phones on the table and were having coffee when the youth made away with phones.
Racket busted
The Commercial Street police have arrested two persons who were allegedly creating fake marks cards, degree certificates, birth certificates and marriage certificates and selling them to the public. The names of the arrested were given as Amin Sait (48) of Bharathinagar and Anthony Lobo (36) of Neelasandra. The accused created fake certificates using screen printing technology and fake rubber stamps, the police said. They sold the marks cards of degrees offered by Bangalore University and SSLC and PUC courses. The buyers were mainly those seeking jobs in call centres and private companies or those applying for a passport, the police said.
Held for murder
The MICO Layout police have arrested the car driver of Parvathamma (56), editor of a Kannada weekly and a social worker, on the charge of murdering her on Wednesday. The police said Chidananda had strangled Parvathamma, a resident of Hulimavu, after she refused to pay him Rs. 1,000. After killing her, Chidananda robbed her of gold ornaments worth Rs. 42,000, they said.
Pirated VCDs seized
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials on Wednesday raided a house in Viveknagar police station limits and arrested three persons from Bihar on charges of pirating movie VCDs and DVDs. The police seized VCDs, DVDs, inlay cards and electronic gadgets used for pirating and recording, all worth Rs. 38 lakh. The names of the arrested were given as Banku Prasad (25), Rakesh (18) and Surendra Kumar (19), all from Darbangha in Bihar. The owner of the house Bengali Suresh, also from Darbangha, managed to escape, the police said.
