Twelve of marriage party killed in Malda

KOLKATA: Twelve persons were killed and more than 40 injured when a vehicle carrying a wedding party hit a tree at Maheshpur in Malda district of West Bengal on Friday night.

The incident occurred a little after 10 p.m., when the bridegroom and his relatives were returning after the wedding, which took place the previous day.

The bridegroom escaped unhurt. The bride was not travelling with the party.

Driver arrested

The driver, who escaped from the scene, was later arrested. Tests were being conducted to ascertain whether he was drunk, said Dilip kumar Mondol, Superintendent of Police, Malda.
