V-C's approval for college admissions

NEW DELHI: The Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University has allowed Sri Venkateswara College to admit students to post-graduate courses -- Physics (10), Chemistry (20), Zoology (10), Botany (10) and Mathematics (20-approval expected) -- for the academic session 2006-07.

A release issued by the College on Saturday noted that admissions would be made as per the merit list of Delhi University.

Students who have registered with the University are advised to contact the Principal of Sri Venkateswara College on Monday, July 24, for admission.

Ram Babu welcomes Tejinder Khanna report

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma on Saturday welcomed the Tejinder Khanna Committee report on mixed land use, which he said would benefit lakhs of people affected by the sealing and demolition drive in the Capital.

Mr. Sharma said the positive role played by Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken had been very useful in formulating the report, which has taken into account the plight and feelings of the common people.

Marga Schulze Award for Kaul

NEW DELHI: All-India Confederation of the Blind secretary-general J.L. Kaul has been honoured with the first Marga Schulze Award-2006 at the 12th International Conference of Blind Educators at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia for his voluntary service for empowerment of visually impaired women in the country and abroad.

The name of Mr. Kaul -- who is also visually impaired -- was approved by the German-based Marga Schulze Foundation.

The award consists of a citation and Rs.3.75 lakhs. Through employment-oriented vocational training in Hindi and English stenography, Mr. Kaul has enabled a number of blind men and women to work as stenographers and office assistants.

Showcasing folk and traditional arts

NEW DELHI: The closing ceremony of the weeklong "Barahmasa" - Manch Kala Utsav" organised by National Bal Bhavan as part of its golden jubilee year was held here on Saturday.

The occasion was marked by a sound-and-light show in which senior Congress leader Karan Singh was the chief guest.

The festival showcased Indian performing folk and traditional arts. The participating groups were drawn from various States of the country.
