Thiruvananthapuram: Federation of Residents' Associations Thiruvananthapuram has demanded a ban on the use and sale of pan masala that comes in various names within 500 metres of schools. In a statement here on Saturday, FRAT president T.K. Bhaskara Panicker and general secretary Paraniyam Devakumar has pointed out that 370 quintals of pan masala are being sold among students and that 22 per cent of students are addicts to pan masala. The World Health Organisation has also warned that cancer owing to consumption of pan masala would spread like wild fire among students in the next 10 years. The FRAT has suggested that sale and use of pan masala should be checked with the help of social and voluntary organsiations.
