Teachers' association felicitates SSLC toppers

Bangalore: Former Lokayukta N. Venkatachala has called upon students to follow the principles of Chandrashekhar Azad to serve the country.

He was speaking at a function organised by the Karnataka State Secondary Teachers' Association to felicitate nearly 550 toppers of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination here on Sunday.

Remembering Chandrashekhar Azad on his 100th birthday, Mr. Venkatachala said it was an auspicious day to felicitate the children and called upon them to follow his [Chandrashekhar Azad's] ideals. The Prathiba Puraskar will encourage students to work hard, he said.

The students were made to take an oath, in which they promised to work towards nation building.

"You should not forget the oath that you all have taken today. You should not forget your responsibilities after taking the oath, like some of our politicians do," he said.

Mr. Venkatachala urged students to follow the principles of Swami Vivekananda. Actress Malavika Avinash said meritorious students should stop going abroad.

The younger generation should contribute in building a casteless society, she said. She called upon the students to follow the simple principles of truth and non-violence.
