Harsh enters singles final

NEW DELHI: Harsh Mankad knocked out second seed Antony Dupuis of France 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-3 to move into the final of the $25,000 Challenger grass court tennis tournament at Manchester. The Indian Davis Cupper will meet the local hope Joshua Goodall in the final.

However, in doubles, Harsh in partnership with Phil Stolt of the U.S. went down 5-7, 6-3, 9-11 to Joshua Goodall and Ros Hutchins of Britain in the semifinal.

In the $25,000 ITF women's tournament Chengdu, China, Tara Iyer continued with her fine run as she beat Luo Bing-Jie of China 6-0, 6-1 in the second round of the qualifying event. She will take on Zhou Yi-Miao of China in the third and final qualifying round.

In the $10,000 ITF women's tournament at Bangkok, Asha Nandakumar and Oormila Ram made the third and final qualifying round. The top seed Asha beat Michelle Russ of Australia 7-6(4), 1-6, 6-4 in the second round, while Oormila beat another Australian, Natalie Solevski, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in

the same round. Both the Indian girls had a bye in the first round.

Vishika Chhetri, however, went down, 3-6, 6-7(2) in the second qualifying round to Thuy-Dung Nguyen of Vietnam.
