Jeev finishes tied fifth

Hokkaido: India's top golfer Jeev Milkha Singh kept up his impressive streak in Japan making his fifth top-10 finish in just seven starts with a one-under 71 on the final day of the 120 million yen Sega Sammy Cup.

Jeev totalled three-under 285 for the week and ended tied fifth to win 4,560,000 yen (approx. $40,000).

Yeh Wei Tze of Taiwan won the title with a superb finish that saw him birdie the last three holes for a bogey-free six-under 66 and a total of 12-under 276. He registered a four-shot win over Hidemasa Hoshino (69).

Liang Wen Chong (70) and Yano Azuma (72) were tied for third at four-under followed by Jeev (71) and Chawalit Plaphol (72), who were tied fifth at three-under.

Jeev opened the final day with a string of three pars and then birdied the fourth and the eighth to turn in two-under, at which point he was in position to finish higher.

He bogeyed 10th and 12th, with a birdie in between, on 11th. Another bogey on 15th spoilt his card, before he hauled himself up with a birdie on 17th. He needed 29 putts.

Jeev equalled his best finish in Japan this year. He was earlier tied fifth in Japan PGA championships, besides which he has been tied sixth in Mizuno Open, tied ninth in UBS Japan Tour event and 10th in Crowns.

Chopra, Atwal move up

Arjun Atwal sparkled with a second eagle in three days to be tied 24th, while Daniel Chopra fired five birdies to occupy tied 15th place in the $3 million BC Open (U.S.) at the Atunyote Golf Club course in Verona.

Atwal's eagle hitting effort at two on par-4 ninth hole for the second time in three days brought him a card of three-under 69.

Thanks to their effort, Chopra and Atwal moved up in the third round.

Chopra, who climbed up from tied 27th, is now nine-under 207 for three days. Atwal, from overnight 39th, is seven-under 209.

It was a rain-hit day with two delays, but nevertheless the round got completed in time.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Hjertstedt of Sweden overcame the rain delays to shoot a four-under 68 and take a one-shot lead after three rounds. — PTI
