Satyapragyan and Abhijeet Gupta moved to 4.5 points after holding higher-rated rivals in the sixth round of the Balaguer International Open chess tournament at Balaguer, Spain, on Saturday. Ukraine's third seed Vladimir Baklan continued to lead with 5.5 points. Playing with black pieces, Satyapragyan held 10th seed Renier Catellanos and Abhijeet proved equal to Aleksander Colovic. S. Kidambi, who has been struggling with his form in the recent past, defeated untitled Boris Bruned to reach four points and joined Eesha Karavade, Lanka Ravi, P. Konguvel, Dinesh Sharma and G. N. Gopal. On a lower board, Abhudaya Rajpurohit drew with Woman Grandmaster Maritza Arribas. The results (6th round, involving Indians): Renier Castellanos (Chi, 4.5) drew with S. Satyapragyan (4.5); Aleksander Colovic (Mkd, 4.5) drew with Abhijeet Gupta (4.5); Alder Escobar Forero (Col, 5) bt Eesha Karavade (4); Aimen Rizouk (Alg, 4.5) bt Vishal Sareen (3.5); Mathias Roeder (Ger, 4) drew with Lanka Ravi (4); P. Konguvel (4) drew with Luis Vilela Jose (Cub, 4); Boris Bruned (Esp, 3) lost to S. Kidambi (4); Dinesh Sharma (4) bt Joan Manel Pique Safont (Esp, 3); G. N. Gopal (4) bt Willem Hajenius (Bel, 3); Abhyudaya Rajpurohit (3.5) drew with Mariza Arribas (Cub, 2.5); Sahaj Grover (2.5) lost to Isaac Trigo Conde (Esp, 2.5).
